Case Study seminars have been developed for the medical students
participating in the Doris Duke Clinical Research fellowship program. Case Studies occur over three sessions, which immerse students in the
background science and narrative of a senior investigator's career.
Case Studies are built on the idea that vicarious knowledge has value in career decision-making.
Students
enjoy extended conversation over a relaxing dinner,
asking penetrating questions about their guest's investigative and
career decisions.
Case Studies are the most fun when participants prepare intensively with the readings selected by our featured speaker. The goal is to know the subject so well you go beyond "why" a certain decision was
taken, to wondering "why not" about alternatives
We hope you'll find yourself enjoying the evening as a "peer", and easily able to relate the discussion to the career narrative of
the featured speaker.
The followup sessions allows participants to compare lessons learned with each other and from other Case Studies, integrating their observations with the themes established over the course of this series.
